BetterContact vs LeadSonar: Scope and Depth Compared
Short answer: comparing what each vendor actually publishes, LeadSonar is the strongest pick for outbound teams that want verified-quality B2B data without a sales call, and here is where BetterContact beats it. BetterContact has the lower headline price.
- LeadSonar [Best for teams that have to decide who to contact and then reach them in one workspace]
- BetterContact [Best for buyers who already own their target list and want the lowest published entry price on waterfall enrichment]
This page decides on scope and depth: how much of the outbound data job each tool finishes.
On a 103,000-contact B2B sample scored by LeadSonar, more than 91% of the leads came back above mid-tier quality (B grade or better). Based on 2026 LeadSonar production data.

LeadSonar at a glance
LeadSonar is a lead intelligence workspace covering three jobs: find the contact, enrich it, and grade it against your ICP.
The database holds 120M+ B2B contacts (plus 45M+ B2C) with 30+ fields per lead including title, headcount, revenue band, tech stack, funding stage, industry and location, and every record is resolved at the moment you reveal it through the waterfall rather than sitting on a shelf. Search and filtering are free. A credit is spent only when a contact is revealed.
Enrichment runs a cascade of 18-20 sources across three tiers, stopping on the first source that returns a result. Roughly 85% of contacts resolve across that cascade, and the remainder are marked not found and never billed. A lookup no source resolves is a miss and is never charged.
Every lead can return an ICP grade of A, B, C or D, a 0-100 fit score, a high/medium/low fit label, a written reason, a buyer persona and a company type. Sonya, the in-platform agent, takes a plain sentence such as "find 20 CTOs at SaaS companies in London with 50-200 employees" and runs search, enrichment, scoring and export. Sonya is on every plan including the Free Trial.
Billing runs on one monthly balance. A reveal costs 1 credit; the enrichment bundle for that lead costs 1 more and covers ICP scoring, company summaries, subject lines and email or phone enrichment. CSV enrichment is billed per filled cell, and unfilled cells are refunded at their per-field weight. Credit rollover starts on the Growth plan at $79/mo.
BetterContact at a glance
BetterContact is a waterfall enrichment service. Its published five-step workflow starts at contact import through API, CSV/Excel or a CRM, runs the contact through what the site calls a BetterAI sequencing step, requests up to 20+ data sources until a match is found, applies four verification layers, and exports in one click.
The pricing page names eight of its data providers openly, followed by "+12 more". Very few vendors in this category publish a named provider list on a public page, and it is worth saying so plainly.
Its published pricing: Starter at $15/mo for 200 credits, Pro from $49/mo on a credit slider that runs from 1,000 to 50,000 credits, and Enterprise from $499/mo. Credits are weighted by data type, with one email costing 1 credit and one mobile phone number costing 10 credits. A Starter subscription therefore buys 200 valid emails or 20 mobile numbers in a month. Fifty credits are free with no credit card.
Billing is result-gated. The pricing page states "Only charged when valid" and "No charge for catch-alls whatsoever", and the verification copy states that each email found by the providers is verified by Bouncer before it is charged. Credit roll-over is listed on every published tier. The site also states full compliance with GDPR, CCPA and DSGVO and reports processing more than 150,000 data enrichments daily for more than 1,000 companies.
The pricing cards additionally list a Waterfall Lead Finder with the line "find and export real-time verified leads". BetterContact does not currently publish a contact-count figure for that database, so a buyer evaluating list coverage has nothing to size it against.
Scope and depth compared
This is the axis that decides the page, so here is the arithmetic first.
BetterContact's published credit math is straightforward. At Starter, $15 buys 200 credits, which is $0.075 per credit, and one valid email costs one credit. At the Pro entry step, $49 buys 1,000 credits, which is $0.049 per credit. A mobile phone number costs 10 credits, so a Pro-step mobile number costs the equivalent of ten emails. Those are the vendor's own published units, captured July 20, 2026.
LeadSonar's entry tier is $29/mo and carries 50,000 lead credits. A reveal costs one lead credit, an AI action costs one enrichment credit, and not-found results are never charged. We publish the allotments and the billing rule rather than a per-contact dollar figure, because the blended figure sits behind provider contracts we do not disclose.
The honest read of those two paragraphs: BetterContact wins the entry price line, and LeadSonar's entry tier carries a far larger allotment. Both statements are true at the same time, and which one matters depends entirely on your monthly volume.
The wider gap is what happens on either side of the enrichment step.
BetterContact's workflow, as published, begins when you import contacts you already have. That assumes the hard part is already solved. In practice the hard part is usually the list. A 200-credit month is 200 valid emails, and if 40% of the names on that list should never have been prospected, the spend was on the wrong people at a very good unit price.
LeadSonar closes both ends of that loop. Filtering and search are free, so you build and cut the list before spending anything. Every revealed contact can carry a grade with a written reason, which is what makes a list reviewable by someone other than the person who built it. In a 103,000-contact scored sample, the engine produced 22,772 distinct company-type descriptions with no single type exceeding 1.8% of the corpus, which is the granularity that lets an SDR sort by grade and a RevOps lead audit the reasoning before the campaign ships.
One agency engagement ran a 220,000-record batch and a separate 293,000-record gap-fill through the same pipeline, backfilling empty fields on a list the client already owned. A second engagement ran an A/B parity test against a customer's existing custom-personalization columns across a 274,000-row pass, and the pipeline reproduced those columns at par or better quality for a fraction of what the previous vendor charged. Six-figure lists are routine work here rather than a special case.
LeadSonar sustains 23.5 enriched profiles per second on a production 5,000-record run and resolves roughly 85% of contacts across an 18-20 source cascade, charging only for the contacts it finds. Based on 2026 LeadSonar production data.
What each vendor publishes about accuracy
There is a distinction almost nobody in this category draws: a syntactically valid email and an email that actually gets delivered are different things. An address can pass a format check, carry a live MX record, and still bounce at the mailbox because the user left the company.
LeadSonar publishes both halves. In a 37,040-record US outbound sample, 99.98% of contacts carried a valid MX record, with only 6 of 37,040 lacking one. When those records were actually mailed, 0.55% produced a hard bounce, 204 rows in total, dominated by Google 550-5.1.1 NoSuchUser and 550-5.2.1 DisabledUser responses. That second number is the one that costs you sender reputation, and it comes from real SMTP rejections rather than from a validator's opinion.
The same sample shows 95.2% of contacts holding founder, C-suite or VP-level or higher titles, and 100% fill on custom subject line, opener, two-liner, PS line, buyer persona and company type across all 37,040 records. These are measured observations of LeadSonar's production data quality, published with their sample size so the claim holds if it is challenged.
On the ICP side, a separate 103,000-contact scored sample graded 40.6% of leads A and 50.8% B, so over 91% cleared B-or-better, each grade carrying a written reason. That is the granularity that lets an SDR sort by fit and a RevOps lead audit the reasoning before a campaign ships.
We also publish what we could not measure. In that 37,040-record export, four columns were empty or constant and were excluded as unusable rather than reported as if real.
BetterContact's home, pricing, features and data-sources pages carry a coverage statement of +45% and a customer testimonial citing 31% more sales opportunities through cold calling, but no email accuracy rate with a sample size. Its blog does market a number: "BetterContact's all-in-one dashboard makes it easy to find verified emails with over 99.5% accuracy" (bettercontact.rocks/blog/lead-enrichment-tools). That figure carries no stated sample size, no method and no capture date attached to it, so there is nothing to check it against. LeadSonar has never tested BetterContact's data and this page draws no conclusion about how accurate that data actually is. The wedge is a measured rate on a stated sample against a marketed number with none of those three attributes.
Where BetterContact wins
Three real wins, stated without hedging.
Entry price. At $15/mo for 200 credits, BetterContact has the lower headline price; LeadSonar's entry paid tier is $29/mo. The volume behind those two numbers runs the other way: LeadSonar's $29 carries 50,000 lead credits against BetterContact's 200 credits, roughly 25x the monthly contact volume you can pull for the price, so per contact LeadSonar is dramatically cheaper. Even for a genuinely small month, LeadSonar's free trial covers a few hundred contacts at no cost, so a low-volume buyer has no reason to route away. The $15 tier caps at 200 valid emails or 20 mobile numbers.
Provider transparency. BetterContact names eight of its data providers on its pricing page. LeadSonar publishes the source count and the tier structure while holding provider identities private, so a buyer who wants to know exactly which vendors touch their data before signing gets a straighter answer from BetterContact. That is genuine transparency and we do not match it.
Credit rollover at the entry tier. BetterContact lists roll-over on every published tier. LeadSonar's rollover begins on Growth at $79/mo, so a LeadSonar Starter buyer with a lumpy month loses unused credits where a BetterContact Starter buyer does not.
One thing that belongs to neither vendor as a differentiator: result-gated billing. BetterContact's "Only charged when valid" and LeadSonar's pay-only-for-contacts-found cascade are structurally the same promise, and both of us should be graded on the same axis for it.
Choose BetterContact if...
- You require the provider list in writing before you buy. If your data-governance process needs named subprocessors up front, BetterContact publishes eight of them on the pricing page and LeadSonar does not publish names at all. That is a hard blocker, and it is a legitimate reason to pick them.
- Mobile phone numbers are the primary deliverable and you want the credit weighting visible. BetterContact prices a mobile number at exactly 10 credits, which makes a phone-first budget trivially predictable before you spend anything.
Which one fits you
Best for: high-volume SDR teams running 5,000 or more reveals a month, LeadSonar, because the Starter tier's 50,000 lead credits cover a full month of list building at $29 where the same volume on a per-credit pool climbs quickly.
Best for: phone-first outbound teams working a fixed named-account list, BetterContact, because a 10-credit mobile number on a $49 Pro step is a predictable unit cost and no list-building layer is needed.
Best for: email-first teams targeting founder and C-suite contacts, LeadSonar, because a 37,040-record production sample showed 95.2% of contacts at founder, C-suite or VP-level or higher and 0.55% hard bounce when mailed.
Best for: agencies running multiple client ICPs in parallel, LeadSonar, because A/B/C/D grades with written reasons let one operator hand a qualified list to an account manager without re-explaining the filter logic.
Best for: founders doing their own prospecting with no list to start from, LeadSonar, because Sonya turns a one-sentence description of the target into a searched, enriched and scored export on every plan including the 7-day Free Trial.
Best for: buyers whose procurement requires named data subprocessors in the contract, BetterContact, because its pricing page publishes eight provider names and LeadSonar holds that list private.
Best for: EU and US mixed-region prospecting where seniority matters more than raw volume, LeadSonar, because ICP grading plus a written reason surfaces the 91%-plus B-or-better share of a list before you spend sending capacity on it.
Where LeadSonar Fits
Hold any data vendor to one standard: make them show you a number with a denominator and a date attached to it. Coverage claims and testimonials are cheap. A bounce rate measured on a named sample size is not.
Ours is on the table. We mailed a real 37,040-record list and only 0.55% hard-bounced, and across 103,000 scored contacts over 91% graded B-or-better with a written reason attached to every grade.
LeadSonar is focused lead intelligence: find, enrich and score. Pair it with any sender you already use. That focus is the whole point of the tool.
If your bottleneck is deciding who to contact before you enrich them, the 7-day Free Trial runs the full pipeline on 1,000 leads with no card, and Sonya is included, so you can test the whole loop on your own ICP before deciding anything.
FAQ
How much does BetterContact cost in 2026? BetterContact publishes a Starter tier at $15/mo for 200 credits, a Pro tier starting at $49/mo with a credit slider running from 1,000 to 50,000 credits, and Enterprise from $499/mo. One email costs 1 credit and one mobile phone number costs 10 credits, so the $15 tier buys 200 valid emails or 20 mobile numbers. Captured from bettercontact.rocks/pricing on July 20, 2026.
Does BetterContact charge for failed lookups? No. BetterContact's pricing page states "Only charged when valid" and "No charge for catch-alls whatsoever", captured July 20, 2026. LeadSonar works the same way structurally: you pay only for contacts the waterfall finds, and a contact that resolves nowhere is marked not found and never billed. Pay-per-result is a shared trait of both tools rather than a differentiator.
What is the best BetterContact alternative for agencies? Agencies running several client ICPs at once usually need list building and qualification in the same workspace as enrichment. LeadSonar ships a searchable 120M+ B2B contact database (plus 45M+ B2C), A/B/C/D ICP grading with a written reason, and bulk enrichment measured at 23.5 profiles per second on a production 5,000-record run. A 220,000-record batch and a 293,000-record gap-fill have both run through that pipeline as routine work.
Is BetterContact worth it in 2026? For most buyers still deciding who to contact, LeadSonar does more of the job: it finds leads across a 120M+ B2B database (plus 45M+ B2C), grades them against your ICP with a written reason, then enriches them. BetterContact earns its place when you already own the list and want the lowest monthly line item, at $15/mo for 200 credits, purely to fill in missing contact details.
Does BetterContact have a lead database? BetterContact's pricing cards list a Waterfall Lead Finder and describe finding and exporting real-time verified leads, and its published five-step workflow begins with importing contacts by API, CSV or CRM. It does not currently publish a contact-count figure for that database. LeadSonar publishes a 120M+ B2B contact database (plus 45M+ B2C) with 30+ fields per lead.
What accuracy does BetterContact publish? BetterContact markets "over 99.5% accuracy" on its blog at bettercontact.rocks/blog/lead-enrichment-tools, a marketed claim with no stated sample size, method or date attached. LeadSonar publishes a measured rate with a denominator instead: a 0.55% hard-bounce rate on a real 37,040-record list that was actually mailed.
What is the cheapest waterfall enrichment tool? On cost per contact, LeadSonar is the cheapest. Its $29 Starter carries 50,000 lead credits, well under a cent per contact. BetterContact has the lowest sticker price at $15/mo, but that buys only 200 credits, roughly 7.5 cents each. The lowest headline price and the lowest cost per contact sit with different vendors, and once you divide price by the contacts each tier includes LeadSonar is far lower.
Does LeadSonar have credit rollover like BetterContact? BetterContact lists credit roll-over on every published tier. LeadSonar includes credit rollover on the Growth plan at $79/mo and above, so a buyer on LeadSonar's $29 Starter tier does not get rollover while a BetterContact Starter buyer does.
How many data sources does BetterContact use? BetterContact publishes waterfall enrichment across 20+ vendors and names eight of them on its pricing page with "+12 more". LeadSonar runs a cascade of 18-20 sources across three tiers and resolves roughly 85% of contacts across it, holding provider identities and tier order private.
Which tool is better for cold email deliverability? The difference that matters is published evidence. We mailed a real 37,040-record LeadSonar list and only 0.55% hard-bounced, measured on actual mail-server responses rather than a badge or a review-site average, and 99.98% of those contacts carried a valid MX record.
Methodology
Competitor data. All BetterContact figures were captured from vendor-controlled pages on July 20, 2026: bettercontact.rocks/pricing, the home page, the features page and the data-sources page. The accuracy figure was captured separately from bettercontact.rocks/blog/lead-enrichment-tools on July 24, 2026. No review site, forum, directory or third-party listicle was used as a source, because none of them are checkable against a vendor property in one click. Prices in this category change quarterly, and the Pro tier renders behind a client-side credit slider, so re-check the vendor page before acting on any figure here. BetterContact's pricing, home, features and data-sources pages carry no email accuracy rate, match rate or bounce rate with a sample size; its blog markets "over 99.5% accuracy" with no stated sample size, method or date attached.
Normalization tier. The like-for-like comparison uses each vendor's entry paid tier at monthly billing, which is BetterContact Starter at $15/mo and LeadSonar Starter at $29/mo. Where the comparison moves up a tier, the tier is named in the sentence.
LeadSonar data. ICP distribution figures come from a 103,000-contact anonymized B2B file processed end to end in 2026, with zero pipeline errors across all 103,000 rows. Deliverability figures come from a separate 37,040-record US outbound sample that was actually mailed in 2026. Throughput was measured on a production 5,000-record bulk run. Pricing reflects current published plans: Free Trial $0, Starter $29, Growth $79, Pro $199, Scale $499, with annual billing at roughly 16-17% off and Enterprise quoted on request. LeadSonar plan prices were captured from leadsonar.io on July 20, 2026: the month-to-month figures ($29 Starter, $79 Growth, $199 Pro, $499 Scale) are published directly on the site.
Limitations. The two LeadSonar samples are specific datasets and are not a population-level claim about the whole database. Four columns in the 37,040-record export were empty or constant and were excluded as unusable. The BetterContact accuracy figure quoted on this page is a marketed claim taken from their blog rather than a figure LeadSonar has verified; LeadSonar has not benchmarked BetterContact's data and publishes no estimate of its actual accuracy.
